Peachtree Hematology-Oncology Consultants provide
patients with the most advanced cancer care available, close
to home in a private practice setting. As physicians who see patients
with cancer every day, we are dedicated to the prevention of
cancer. We are actively sought out by many of the major
pharmaceutical companies to provide state of the art clinical
trials of new treatments for cancer. These treatments include
phase 2, 3 and 4 trials. We also have access to new studies
through the Atlanta Regional Community Clinical Oncology Program
(CCOP). If the need arises, we coordinate referrals and
/or therapy to major cancer centers across the United States.
We pride ourselves in providing a caring environment where our
patients know they are receiving the most current and effective
treatment available.

LABORATORY
Laboratory Service
Your blood is usually drawn each visit before you see the physician
or nurse. These blood tests allow your physician or nurse to
monitor the progress of your treatment.
A CBC (complete
blood count) is the most
frequent blood test you will receive before seeing the doctor
and before chemotherapy treatments. Often a CBC is drawn
between chemo treatments to monitor your blood counts.
Reference Lab
For tests that cannot be performed in the office, your specimen
will be sent to a reference laboratory designated by your insurance
carrier. Usually the lab will bill your insurance company directly. Insurance
policies differ and there may be instances where your insurance
company will not pay for laboratory work you choose to have
performed. In this case, you will be financially responsible
for lab fees incurred.
Lab Work Drawn Elsewhere
On occasion, we are asked to accept blood counts drawn at another
laboratory. We are glad to comply with this request when
it does not prevent us from providing you with good medical
care. It will be necessary for you to have that facility
fax the results of your counts to us the same day. You will
also be responsible for calling our office to verify that your
blood work results have been received.
Advanced Diagnostic Testing
Our lab is equipped to facilitate processing of advanced diagnostic
testing. Genetic testing is proving helpful in cancer
risk assessment and management for patients and families affected
by hereditary cancer syndrome.
Our physicians are available to discuss whether genetic testing
is recommended for you. Advancements in chemotherapy are
greatly supported by specialized testing that determines efficacy
of drugs. Your physician may recommend these tests in the course
of your treatment.
Prescriptions
Another important part of your care may be prescription medications.
Your physician will prescribe medications as needed. For your
convenience we have an in-office pharmacy, Peachtree Hematology-Oncology
Pharmacy (PHOP). You may have your prescriptions filled while
at our office. Our pharmacy is open 8:30am until 5pm. Call
in advance of your visit or come by during those hours for
refills. The telephone number is 678-298-3228. Prescriptions
to be picked up at the Fayetteville or Newnan offices must
be called in 24 hours in advance.
If you use
a pharmacy other than PHOP, call refill requests to the nurse
voicemail by 2pm. When you call the office about a prescription,
please have your prescription bottle available. The
label on each bottle will have:
Name of the medication
Dose of the medication
Directions for taking the medication
Pharmacy phone number
Many strong pain medications require a new written prescription
as required by Georgia law. Your physician, nurse or pharmacist
can tell you if this applies to your medication.
Our policy is to prescribe generic drugs when we are certain
the product will be effective for your needs.
